47 Custom Super Clipper Dash

Working on the dash of my 47 Custom Super Clipper and I have never seen one painted this way. My question is, is this original or was this somebodies way of trying to do it on the cheap? It looks like it's been taken apart before since it was mix match nuts holding the Packard Script on. I don't know what is worse going behind and cleaning up other peoples mistakes or trying to figure out what is correct with so little information available.
Thanks for your time.
Wes

I think someone did yours on the cheap just like mine was done. It had also been crudely painted over sometime it it's previous life with brush strokes still present.

For what it is worth, here are a couple of photos of supposedly original Custom dashes I have collected from various sources . I think they are correct because the pattern seems to be what was on mine once the chrome was removed and the pattern uncovered.

I sent photos of my unmolested parts and a description from the fact book and owners manual to GrainIt Technologies and here is their response.

The Amboyna burl that Is refereed to is the same as our Carpathial Elm Burl plate ( the Automakers came up with many variations of fancy names for the same patterns ( like Ricardo Montabon's rich "Corinthian Leather" )

The Pearwood is the same as our Oriental wood plate.

The base color looks to be our GBC-CE1
The Graining and Toning compounds are Carpathian Elm.

As from Dragnet "Just the facts, ma'am." After rereading Howards Blog I should have started working on my Packard at the same time I would be better off now. So now it's catch up time without the A/C and a lot of repeat questions.
Also it is always best to do a search on this web site before asking questions because there is a lot of good information out there. After a couple of hours I found this,packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb ... flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0 from 2010 and it refeneces a 2008 Blog.

Here's some picture from my Maroon Packard the top of the dash is about gone and the piece in front of the steering column is turning colors.
Oh and don't asked about the gold in the trim. That has done before I got it and I'm not sure if the first or second owner did.

This is how my dash turned out using the GrainIt kit. The flash kind of washed it out in this photo but the pattern is there and looks decent up close. A vast improvement over the way it started out.

My talents do not lie on the artistic side but with more patience and finesse it could probably have been improved -- particularly on the clear coat shiny finish. I was torn on whether it should be super shiny as some have been or more a subdued satin look so I leaned toward satin thinking that would look more wood like.

Joe Santana and the fellow in Montana who recently sold his Packards did beautiful work with the GrainIt kits.

I think the color on the trim pieces is argent silver-at least I was told that is what is on my car

I would say I agree with you, one of the two people that owned it before me painted the trim inside and out and also the rims gold. I've repainted the rims maroon to match the body,

I kind of like the gold but the downside is when it flakes off the spot will be 10 times as noticeable as when the silver gets a booboo.

Well one last bit of information before I start stripping off the paint and doing my first attemp at wood gain paint, or maybe, wrap has come to mind.
Final notes on the previous paint, I'm guessing it was a different kind of way to try and get the wood grain look. I can tell that by looking at little thinks that this paint had to be added later on in the cars life. One on the things was the clock was missing one of it's hold downs, but the big give away was the rubber bumpers for the glover box door were painted over.
