38 six engine rear main seal

Hello,

My 37 115c convertible has a 38 six engine in it. A couple of questions with the engine. The number on it is A25963D or A25963B. What does the D or B stand for at the end of the number. This was located on the upper back cyclinder on the driver's side.

Also it seems like some engine oil is getting past the slinger at the rear of the engine, is this common. I see via older posting that the six didn't have a rear seal at this point. It looks like a couple of drips are on the pavement when I parked it coming from the bottom hole in the flywheel clutch cover. Is this an issue?

Thanks

James

I think it is a B and this might answer the question. Also a bit on identifying heads was in the same bulletin. Others can better answer the oil question but if there are any drain holes the slinger needs those possibly could be clogged.
