Based on 1282-17823 with theft-proof 503850 and motor #B26309A in my database, I'd conclude there is an excellent chance your motor is original to the car. Your vehicle number is the highest known 1282 known to me. Numbering began at 2001 so your car is the 16,211th (18211-2000) produced and Charlie Blackman has estimated from surviving vehicle numbers that 16,517 were produced in total so yours is very near the end. Also the highest 6-cylinder motor number known to me is B27262A. So it all seems to match together quite well.

Glad you found it useful. You might find it interesting that 1282-17823 was delivered on Sept. 5, 1939 in Helsinki, Finland, paint code S, 4.54 rear axle. For a small market, the number of 1939 Packards delivered to Finland's exclusive dealer Autola Oy is quite remarkable, about 150 cars, two Twelves but mostly Sixes.

Wow, great stuff. Any other information on this particular car? I am pretty certain we are the 3rd owner, it was repainted in 1976 by owner #2 from its original Packard Blue to a lighter shade of blue. FYI, we didn't care for that color and painted the car its current color, Packard Ivory

Thanks again Owen !

John

No. It was 1282-17823, the car that was very close to your numbers, that was exported to Finland.
