I see no tool for that purpose listed in any of my Packard special tool catalogs of the era. If there was a special tool it may have been provided by the maker of tire service equipment.

Gene,
I have a set of motorcycle tire removal tools that I used to remove the chrome ring. Before use of the tool I wrapped some gorilla tape around the end of the tool which seemed to help not chip the paint on the rim. Still had some chipping but not to bad. Also I found and read to use dish soap in the aid of slipping the tire onto the rim I had to do tire removal a few times because of a bad batch of whitewalls. Very frustrating after having a nice paint job on the rims. Good luck with yours and hope this helped

Thanks for the info, I'll check into the motorcycle tools as the tools I have didn't work very well.
