Used copper gasket..on the torque.. My recall is the steel gaskets don't need it..i never had a problem.

I strongly believe. The heads..cause valve guy surfaced them.

Not much left. There is not that much as it is ..

I will most likely take the heads off my parts car.

My heads have harden seats so it sucks..700 bucks proof.

Also . unless the water pump manifold is loose. You can't get the same torque on all bolts.

Last time cause it was seeping into valve train. Torqued them up to 70 lbs. It helped..but it blew awhile later.

I think the damage is done. Torquing? Don't think will help.

I torque 56.or 58 lbs..book 55.60.

Sounds like engine rebuild time to me. I can offer sympathy I was driving my 1955 400 on the pennsylvania turnpike in 2005 now admittedly I am a bit of a leadfoot and was doing about 70 mph then I heard this bang and saw clouds of black smoke coming from the tailpipes. I pulled to the side of the road and called triple A then I saw that awful sight antifreeze coming out of the exhaust pipe. Later when I took it to the shop that rebuilt the engine the rebuilder says so Mike how many miles did the owner tell you this car had on it? I said 89K he said add about 200K to that figure. I must admit however he did a great job of rebuilding it the engine, recored radiator for less than $5000 including parts and labor.

Just a shot in the dark. I had this happen to an OT car. And it was(possibly) a cracked intake letting coolant in my carb.

Whip.

When I get to it. And I am putting non surfaced heads on.

Then go from there.

This engine only has a few thousand miles on it.

Before the first blow. It was seeping into the valve train.

So I am pretty sure it's the head.
