No bronze bearings in these spindles at least up to the 10th series (I am referring to page 153 in the reprinted Service Letters). Maybe the 11th series was the same.

Correct. The 33-36 parts book for Eights and Super Eights shows 4 ball bearings per car, #215249, same for all years and chassis. My apologies, I earlier referred to them as needle bearings, not ball bearings.

I am getting closer to doing this job on my 34 1104. I am not sure if the king pins are bad or the bearings. Either case, I do not want to tie up the car for months. The king pin kit is available, but not the bearings. If I had an extra set of bearings, I could have them redone and back in my opossession and then do the whole job in a night.

You might want to check the recent thread "Lubrication Note", with good lubrication those pins and bearings should last almost fotever. When you redo them, pay attention to the lubricant path.
