Just as a comment to Dave's information. Our 1931 Model A Ford is the same. A slide lock on the driver's door and a key lock on the front passenger door. Ernie in Arizona

Not sure if any folks out there caught the TV mini-series 'The Cars That Changed America', which aired recently in my viewing area. It was a 3-part, 2 hour per segment chronology of the advent of the automobile from the turn of the 20th century to the post-war era. Unfortunately, there was zero mention of Packard and it focused on the 'Big Three', although when it showed Henry Ford riding around, he was in a Packard!
Anyway, I noticed on several B&W, old time clips, it showed drivers getting in and out of their cars curbside and made note of it as I had read about that as being the reason the passenger door had the keyed handle, on this site and it certainly confirmed that in the videos.

Kinda hard to slide over with individual seats.

Don't see any slide to lock driver side door.

So ..one needs to get out. Walk around reach over lock drivers door.

Let's say a high rolling date.. So your date gets out. What about opening the door for your date.

Packard should of put it on drives side..hell with the other reasons..

Thanks for the info...

Ps might have to put a 56 electric door solenoid in..

Hello Riki, I saw this thread today for the first time, I'm not on the forum very often. Your picture of the new connecting rods really caught my eye. Would you mind giving me some more information about these connecting rods?

I own a 1937 Packard Twelve Club sedan which is a restoration project that I plan to start working on this summer. It's been off the road since 1953.

I have the original rods for it, but eventually I'll have to face the problem of the non-available rod bearings. Are the rods in your picture something that will be for sale from one of the vendors? Am I correct in thinking you're using an easily available bearing shell? Any information you're willing to share would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ian. Had these made . my dad poured his own rods. Someday I may try it I have his jig.

The person doing it for max Merritt burned himself. So inserts are in limbo.

The Carrillo rods take a federal mogul. I should of used a Packard 55.56 rod bearing..

With the federal mogul inserts I still need to add oil holes..

But bearings I am using are 10 under. And I bought extra sets.. I have not had the time to see if the 55.56 rod bearing will fit..it is close..on the 12 rod.

But using the Packard rod you need add the spacing..on side of rod. Which..if ever the original inserts were to be used again..that would need to be grounded off..

For me faster to get engine together with having rods made..

Thanks for the info, Riki. I'm miles away from being ready to do the engine on my car, but I've made a note of it for when the time comes. Looks like the Carillos might be the best way to go...
