That's a great article & story, Dan - thanks for posting it. Great to see a classic Packard saved from the scrapyard. The Blackhawk museum in Danville is definitely on MY bucket list!

Interesting article, glad to know the Twelve is still extant in fine condition.
As perspective on how these now highly desirable cars were regarded when nearing ten years old, the following. The January-February 1948 N.A.D.A Official Used Car Guide prices for a 1939 Twelve Convertible Victoria style 1227 listed as average as-is $540; average loan $450 and average retail $675. By comparison, a 1939 Super 8 style 1279 convertible coupe at $675, $563 and $845 respectively. A 1939 120 style 1299 convertible coupe at $650, $543 and $815 respectively. A 1939 Six style 1289 convertible coupe at $635, $530 and $795 respectively. Add $35 to retail of any model if overdrive equipped. Steve

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive. |
