Randy,

I'm kicking myself now because I can't answer the questions you pose! I've had this parts car for (10) years or so, with thoughts that it would be an invaluable donor for the 400. Well, it has been that and more.

These pictures are from the 55 Patrician parts car, which I took late this afternoon after work. The wires are from the area of the mystery hole. As all can see the cloth is expertly cut and the reverse side of the hole feels factory made too. This same area on my 400 has no such hole.

Still a puzzle although I don't believe it is factory but rather a well done after the fact added something with a bezel.

The wires shown are the standard. Blue & tan with connectors are the map light above glove box, orange & black are clock power & light and the blue & tan that exit continued on to the courtesy light switches on door jamb.

my 56 patricians owners manual mentions an emergency brake warning light, however it does not show where it would be located. It says "if equipped", so maybe it was a dealer installed accessory?

the light lit up whenever the e brake was engaged and the ignition switched on.

On pushbutton equipped cars it had a piece of red plastic that replaced the standard PNHDLR sector piece in the instrument cluster. When not lit, just looks like a dark fill piece but when on, then you see BRAKE. On non PB cars, believe it was a small bracket with red lens that clamped or screwed to lower dash. The switch was on a bracket that screwed to end of emergency brake lever mechanism on firewall. Lights up just before the first notch will catch

And as good as any have been so far--I still like the ejection seat throry and am waiting for KevinAZ to check under the back seat for remnants of a mechanism.

One interesting thing and it has to be the angle of photo but the clock opening looks large for a 55.

But the screen pattern is definitely a '55, just compare it to the previous photo of the Speaker knob, which definitely is a '56.

I think what we have hear is almost certainly a dash somebody Kustomized. It looks impossible to make it a correct replacement for a '55 dash, with an outsized clock and a nicely cut but impossible to cover hole for some other dang thing. That really sucks. Hope you figure an inexpensive way out of it.

Maybe a torsion level override switch??
