I am not familiar with that part, but a couple questions.
Is it magnetic? If not what does the broken edge look like, color? grain? Maybe a picture of the broken edges would help.

These two pieces hold the bumper to the car. They are some kind of metal.

Hi Classiclincoln,
That LOOKS like chromed cast. Are the broken edges porous?? Obviously, finding a good replacement would be optimal, but if you can't, I'd say a good machinist or specialty welder could repair that for you. My guess is they would drill the broken ends and insert a couple of pins for strength, then bevel the joint surfaces, braze the break and dress it smooth. You'd have to get it rechromed. Probably a bit expensive, and would take some time, but better than a bust. I've seen some very impressive cast repairs in the past. Chris.

Hi there,
There are lots of folks out there with the skill and knowledge to braze and/or weld cast iron. I am not one of them, but having paid a couple of them to do work on the cylinder head and engine block of my'29, I can attest to the quality work of Rick Geertsema at A&C Casting Rebuilders here in California (415)269-5483 and Tom Sparrow at Prairie Auto Porcelain in Minnesota (507) 581-9887. However, you will probably not have to go nearly that far afield to find someone to repair that bowtie. John Wogec

Thanks, guys.
I would love to just be able to find a replacement but I doubt I will; that's why I was wondering about the repair. There are some people in my area who are car guys that might be able to help.

It is your lucky day. I needed new bow ties for my 28 526 and somewhere found some reproductions. They are bronze and rough cast but with some grinding, buffing and re-nickled, they are perfect.
I have one rough casting plus the backing plate that I will part with. Please IM me for details and your mailing info. In the photo you see an original junk yard bow tie with massive rust and corrosion. You also see the reproduction casting. Also the last view is of the one with a couple of hours of grinding and polishing with the new nickle plating. 1928 cars are the last of the nickle era and the brightwork is not chrome. I believe the plating cost me about $20 each ( I had 5 plated with other small items for my car so the cost is just an estimate. As for the bright trim, I just had my metal fabricator cut me out strips of polished stainless. Looks like original and will not rust in place.
