Riki, I remember you mentioned needing to do something about the extra long length between the motor and regulator because of the long Packard shaft. Did you wind up cutting the stub shaft on the motor flush with the pinion gear end or trim the Packard shaft to lessen the extra length or did you just add spacers or a thicker mounting plate? Do you have details of the plate or adapter piece or have any good photos in your blog of the version you wound up using?

You can use any 1 wire alternator.
I went with a ford .65 amps. You can use a 200 amp. And not the system. The 30 amp breaker is to keep it at what Packard had it designed for. The regulator is not hooked up. Only using terminal for volt meter Attach file: 20220802_113629.jpg (167.92 KB) 20220802_113433.jpg (208.24 KB) 20220802_112547.jpg (292.81 KB) 20220802_112416.jpg (234.33 KB) 20220802_112448.jpg (241.06 KB)

These guys rebuilt my starter and generator, and say they can rebuild pretty much anything, if that is something that appeals to you:
Buchannan Auto Electric (I am specifically speaking about the window motors, why get NOS ones or adapt something else when you can get the old ones rebuilt).

This topic has been talked about.
Ac v DC. But he wants something reliable. And with ac. Sucking more volts/amps. In my book alternator is way to go. Yes cars are using a generator. And no problems. Are these cars used for long trips. 500 plus miles?. Regularly... Packard would of went to an alternator.. Just advancing Packard to the 24th century.

The armature is supported by a bearing at each end with a long length in the middle. When the window hits the top or bottom limit things abruptly stop letting the shaft absorb the shock. The roughly 1/4" diameter shaft has the worm groove cut in and metal drops down to about 1/8" or less. The regulator and worm drive gear is on one side of the weak spot and suddenly stops, the heavy windings of the armature is on the other side and is still energized so keeps wanting to turn and the shaft snaps at the weak spot. Almost all failures of a window motor have been because the armature shaft breaks and I doubt that is going to be something that could be easily rebuilt.
In this case with the report of a motor overheating and the mechanic saying there is something missing or wrong with the regulator, there is probably some serious drag and an overloaded motor. If the mechanical issues are corrected the motor might be OK.

Window motor.
If dropping a few hundred not a problem. Go original. But I had 2 shafts break. They are ...not.... Repairable.. The late Craig Hendrickson went thru motors like butter.. He was the first here to adapt a non packard motor. His comments are still on the sites. Not sure about pictures.. I believe the down unders have used jaguars motor. Aussies. Or was it craig... He actually even changed the regulator. If someone has 200 to keep on popping for motors go original. The 2 doors mainly give problems.
