Rather than replace, I converted the 6’ fluorescents in our attic. Now they no longer hum and flicker when cold and give nice, bright light. At my Oregon shop, the tripod-mounted halogen worklights made the power wire (extension cord) from the nearby house to the shop get quite warm even with only one on. Now, I can run four of them along with some 40k candlepower warehouse lights and the same cord remains cool!

Converting is good too and I did that first on a couple of my 4' hanging fixtures that were easy to take down. Chose to replace the 8' fixtures because to convert to the LED light I wanted, the old fixture had to have the ballast removed and sockets rewired to work the replacement bulb. Since fixtures had to come down anyway to do the ballast work and removing those were a pain, because the price of a complete LED fixture was not much more than just a conversion bulb decided to go that route.

The lights are all LED. Stock over-runs. Heartbreaking, really. It's going to be like an operating room in there when I get all of this stuff in there. Fred approves of high-tech, really.

I have no idea on the gauge and pick-up. I'm pretty sure that the dash gauge is disconnected. It probably didn't work. I also tend to prefer quantitative data to subjectives like C and H. My first concern when the gauge started reading higher was that there might be some problem. I'm inclined to doubt it now. I'll keep my eyes open as I investigate more, but so far so good.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.

Lights are in and working on the north bay. Best brightness I've ever had in a shop.

She made many passes through to ascertain that I wasn't screwing the pooch or befouling her hayhouse. The funny bit was, when I finished and was getting ready to flip the breaker back on, she came in and looked up. She then looked at me as if to say, good job, human.

Came in after sunset last night. No house lights. Just the car bay circuit on. This is the bomb!!!

Got the old store fixture off the trailer and into the hayhouse. Leveled it and removed all the drawers from it and waxed the undersides where they slide. Drawers that have been sticky for decades now slide easily. Got it mostly loaded with tools, and sorted through a bunch of stuff. It feels better to be more organized. The big work table is halfway clear now, too.

I'm so glad that I remembered to rough in for lights and receptacles over that cabinet before I set it there, cuz it ain't movin'.

Got the next round of lights done. With the cabinets in place and the apparent lack of lumens in the tool room, it was obviously time to upgrade the wattage.

"Damn, Wat, are you ever gonna git yer @$$ moving on some cars?"

Yes, I am and will - when I can see WTF I'm doing.
