Is that a new thing to use chrome-plated cap nuts? No way this is original :)

Actually, the casting around the shaft erodes and the gap tears up the packing causing the leak. A solution is to punch a hole in some brass shim stock and glue it into place using sealer followed by the packing.

Tim, thanks, very knowledgeable.

jw4, when looking to its black wire wheels and headlamp trim rings, I would expect black hubcaps too. But PackardInfo caters for all tastes, capless image attached.

Moscow, museum GON (the Soviet Secret Service).
Although the car seems to be very well restored, I'm not sure if the tire manufacturing was able to deliver whitewall tires for heavy armored cars in 1937.

Looks like a 36 not a 37.

BDC, if this is what they claim it to be then it is a 1508, solely built in 1937.
But its former occupants in Moscow often claimed to be something what they weren't (truth-loving, properly elected, ...).
What is wrong, the front door hinges, the bumper, wait, I believe that you especially miss the support bar behind the spare wheels.

Technically speaking nobody stated what series the car is and by the time the upfitting was completed it was likely over a year old. If Soviet registrations are based on delivery dates, then the registration could say anything.

Those tires look to be the Firestone model and I suppose can handle moving the car for display.

I'm just glad to see the picture. It's awesome.

Tim (Tim Cole), the pleasure is mine.

Who's Hu and who's Fu?
"Hu Jibang and Fu Bingchang, with car and driver, in U.S.S.R. Hu Jibang (胡济邦) was Fu's attaché in Moscow, a Communist spy and a war correspondent."

Fu Bingchang was the Chinese Ambassador in Moscow from c.1943 to 1949. According to this source: Hu was also Fu's lover, and ... spying on him.
