Okay so I'm guessing by the looks of the diagram and what I have on the car that is where the mechanical pump goes the big question is if I took that backing plate there that played off I should theoretically be able to just bolt in a mechanical pump right

Well, it's hard to see, but I put maybe what is the blanking plate on this image. This car looks like it has air conditioning, mine doesn't, and I don't see the water/oil heat exchanger (cooler for the Ultramatic transmission), which is usually forward of the fuel pump, but sometimes those get replaced with an aftermarket air cooler mounted on the radiator.
There are normally two screws for the fuel pump IIRC. But I can take a photo of mine later tonight when I get home, if someone else doesn't get to it first. Attach file: 225999_63d08dba45ca7_mod.jpg (52.93 KB)

Here is what the fuel pump should look like on your car. The fuel pump is located in the front lower corner of the engine under a heat shield. You can see the metal fuel line coming up to the carb from it.
Is not usual 0for heat shields to be missing as lazy owners/mechanics would fail to reinstall them.

And here are a couple of more photos from the parts manual showing the routing of the 5/16 metal line along the outside of the frame rail and then goes up and across on the forward crossmember below the radiator and then up and out on the right side. It connects to the short length of hose that completes the line to the fitting on rear side of the bottom half of the fuel pump .

Yeah so I obviously don't have the heat shield on here looking at it right now and I don't see anything else the that plate that has a question mark on it I'm pretty sure that's where the fuel pump one cuz there's a piece coming off the side of the block and it looks like it has some teeth in it or ridges so you should be able to see The ridges that I was referring to behind that plate on one of the photos and the second photo is of the carburetor and you can see that there's a fuel line at the top running towards the firewall across and down under the car and the rubber hose fuel hose that's coming off the filter connects to it Attach file: 16746144789238501322278516205713.jpg (260.13 KB) 16746145421288052633252802724713.jpg (289.53 KB)

That is a very strange setup for a blanking plate, but that looks to be it. That's where the pump would go. Those two fasteners coming out of that plate are where I remember the fasteners for the pump.

It appears someone just put a block off plate over where the original mechanical pump would have sat.
Obviously there must be an aftermarket electic pump somewhere. Probably back near the tank.

So I'm guessing theoretically if I got a mechanical pump it should just bolt right on and actually work which I might do well I'm going to do but I kind of want to just bypass that or take that electronic fuel pump right out of the equation at least for the time being anyways.
But then I got to figure out how to get it running I've turned it over but it sounds sick it just doesn't seem like there's enough ooumpf or compression this is it turns over really slow.
