Intermittent stalling or loss of power when underway can be frustrating. It can be due to either fuel or ignition issues. A technique for determining whether it is an ignition issue is to temporarily install a neon indicator light with one wire lead having multiple wraps around the #8 spark plug lead (forming an induction coil but not touching the spark plug terminal) and the other wire lead grounded. The neon light will flash continuously when the engine is running unless the ignition system fails. Photo 1 shows a Lumapro 0.07W, T2 Miniature Neon Light Bulb (available from Zoro) soldered to the wire leads. Photo 2 shows the leads individually insulated with small heat shrink tubes and then protected by a single larger heat shrink tube. Photo 3 shows the wire wraps around the #8 spark plug lead. Photo 4 shows the bulb flashing in the driver's compartment.
