I understand the throttle lever is basically telling the transmission the throttle position by varying the throttle pressure on those respective valves, but why does moving it back result in a firmer shift? I would reason it would result in a later shift by the transmission thinking the throttle is more open than it is, relatively. (Or vice versa if I have the directions backwards.)

Ross.
Started up . Pushed D. Started going got both shifts. Stopped. Started to go. I got the L upshift. H is D again. Going to adjust linkage again. But. Is a valve sticking?.

Make sure there's not too much play in the linkage. If so, the valve can spring to the wrong position as I demonstrate here:youtube.com/shorts/8VWbsWP6gmA?si=QEPHdjAUHoRN6r6W
Off the top of my head I don't think a valve sticking could cause this (except the manual valve for obvious reasons) since the valves need to be free for the shifts to happen. Let's say if the Low-High valve were stuck, perhaps it could cause the opposite condition (H and D are both H) but that's not what you experienced.

Thanks Spud.
I did get dd. And H dd But I just came back from test drive. After adjusting the nuts foreword a bit. Going thru. P I have all shifts P. N P.H P.D Reverse always worked. So I'm ok with that. But front brakes. Left locked up. Panic stop. Yap burned rubber And a cop pulled next lane. Just waved.. Brakes tomorrow . But. Just need Ford trk spindles and Ford Galaxy rotors And f. Shoes . Shift mod. Will shift around 20 . Light pedal. But. Give power in dd. First shift then lock up not till back off pedal. Same in H. So that works perfect for me. Converter does not try to engage..

After driving in D. Come to a stop. Is it the converter? that shifts out.. Mine. Takes a moment. Then mine rpm goes up then comes down and out. Is that a shift valve (converter) that is hanging up?. Everything else seems ok.. except having to go thru P to get the right shift. Wondering if control relay is messing up. Thanks Ross.

When using D, as you come to a stop the direct drive clutch will let go at 10-15. If your idle speed is OK, you won't even feel it. Just as you come to a stop the trans will shift from high to low in preparation for the next takeoff. If your idle speed is low, it is almost imperceptible, if your idle speed is high you will feel a slight surge as the trans passes through neutral into low.

I'll lower the rpm a bit. See what happens.

Well
Ross was on the right track. Valve bodies aren't the problem. The damn. Manual shaft. More precise.. The bolt for shift motor. It was loose. Not sure how. But it's tight now. Explains the weird shifts. And going out of low at a stop. The delay. And high to low rpm. I was going to remove the valve bodies. But when I went to pull the bolt out of shift lever. It was tight. Was always loose in R. So pull the rear bracket off. To get to the bolt on shift motor. So moving motor up and down. Seemed to be a gap. Shaft not moving. So I pulled the cover off shift motor Loosen the nut. Then turned the set screw Motor moved up And. When I moved motor. The shift lever moved. Where you can click the gear slots
