Question-Does the carpet go on top of, or under the Dash Insulator Pad? Because it has binding, it makes me think it's supposed to sit on top, but it looks a bit more finished tucked underneath. But the same could be said for the sill plates and the carpet definitely doesn't go under the sill plates.

Same question for the carpet by the back seat, does it go under the seat, or does it just sit close to the seat like it does by the sill plates?

Looking for the factory correct answer before I start building my carpet set.

Trunk/cabin panel. A few more pieces to glue on to finish this.

Thank you! Where it sits will make a difference when building/fitting the front carpet.

It would appear by the indentation on the rear carpet that it was under the rear seat. Given the different radii of the carpet and seat it is correct for the seat to sit on the carpet. Agree?

My carpet is not original, so take this with a grain of salt. I have no idea if it was made from the original pattern.

Tucked under the back seat is the way mine fits. If it wasn't under the seat it would move all over.

I also tucked the sides under the sill plates. I'm pretty sure the 55-56 models were not tucked in by the sills, not sure about 51-54. I prefer it tucked regardless because it keeps the carpet in place and looks clean.

I believe you're correct, that the carpet did not go under the sill plates on the 55 & 56's either. I'm pretty sure the back seat is supposed to sit on the carpet like yours does.

The carpet moving around was/is a problem which I'm going to solve by sewing Velcro along the edges. This will give me the the factory look, and be able to keep the carpet in place. At least that's my current plan!

The carpets did not go under the sills. The edging on carpet went right up to edge of the sills. There is a fiber wood rod like thing that fills the gap under the sill hump to help prevent then from getting crushed.

There is a STB or Service Counselor recommending that little trim screws with cup washers be added near the front corners of the seat to attach the carpet to the floor sheet metal if the customer complains of shifting carpet.

My 54 still had evidence of those screws.
