Correct Outside Rear View Mirrors for 22nd Series Deluxe Eight Touring Sedan?

Hello all!

New owner of a 1949 22nd series Deluxe Eight Touring Sedan. I'm wondering if the outside rear view mirror - I only have one - is correct.

The first picture is what it came with.

The second is one I found online that matches the modern reproduction mirrors advertised as being correct for that model, as seen in picture number 3.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I've searched all the other posts about side mirrors and it would appear that I have an aftermarket something, and that my Packard possibly didn't come with one at all when it was new so it was added later.

Mirrors were always added later by the dealer or owner as the factory never installed them even though they were in the accessory catalog. The clip-ones were always aftermarket.

The long neck one matching the repro is the factory design, but mounted in an incorrect or at least atypical way. The base usually went in the center “valley” of the belt line stainless.

Those appear to be the same as what Kanter shows. A set of these can be yours for only $400! Just drive faster so you only have to be concerned with what's in front of you and not behind you!

The parts and accessories list shows side mirrors for 24th series and up, but not for the 22nd. The owners manual talks about side mirrors being an available accessory, but doesn't show a picture.

The deluxe outside rear view mirrors are shown in the 1946 and 1948 accessories catalogs and were available factory installed where they are shown as DML and DMR on the production slip. I parted out a 22nd Series Custom 8 that had the factory installed mirrors.

Also available from Dwight Heinmuller but not cheap.

So - the Kanter mirrors aren't correct for the 22nd series, correct?

Wrong.
They are correct for the 22nd Series and mount to the door beltline moulding.
