In the overall scheme of life, and as someone who drives nothing but vintage cars, points are among the very least of my worries as far as reliability is concerned. Looking back over 50 years I can think of only one time points absolutely left me hanging. Aftermarket ignition systems--several times.

In actual point of fact, I have had more trouble with rotors especially those nasty disgusting revolting and useless despicable ones that Delco supplied in most 8 cylinder distributors from 53-60. I had another car towed to me with the resistor blown to powder just last week. If you use the concurrent Pontiac rotor with no resistor you will have no trouble in the otherwise excellent Delco distributor.

Yapo. Ross.

I use the solid rotor..

Don't get this.

New one checks out like my old one.

New one. Box. 1183.
Ignitor. 1181...

How do you check for grounded coil.?. Grounded. Distributor?

Nice thing about points is you can buy a whole spare set of parts for like $100 and keep them in the trunk in case you need them.

The resistor-free rotors are in the parts X-ref, for anyone curious.
