I know a guy near Dayton selling a rebuilt 359 for $5k.

Not Aldrich, FYI.

I'll send his phone number if you are interested.

The correct engine for this car is the 359 ci with an aluminum head. They only made this engine for the big Packards (Patrician, Caribbean, Pacific, Convertible) and only in 1954. These engines can be found but are unique to this year. If you are going to make a driver out of it, a 327 is not a bad swap. The 327 is easy to find and bolts right in without any modification.

My reference to the windshield price is correct. By the time you add shipping, it will be well over $1500. The 51-54 convertibles had a special windshield different from the sedans.

A windshield for my 53 Cavalier, in Canada, would have been pushing $1500.00 with shipping and installation. I bought a parts car for $500 that had a good windshield and used that instead. It's not perfect, but goes well with my car.

I asked earlier, but I still don't see a photo. Try pulling out the glovebox drawer, then take a photo of the RH side of the glovebox drawer. For 1954 Caribbeans, the original factory colors and other info are usually attached there by stickers or labels.

Thanks.

Thanks for checking on me...

No. Not yet. Lots of unknowns with a car that has been sitting for 10 years+
Still planning to make an offer......

This will most likely be a driver and 327 swap. The deal comes with a spare engine (327)

Still cant seem to find the paint combo on any internet phiotos or on any factory paint combo listings.

I will update the thread when I have more info.

The 53 thru 56 Caribbeans hold enough value that when properly repaired, they will gain value faster than the parts cost you throw at it. Of course, your time will be worth roughly minimum wage, but it's better than the other cars (especially sedans) that you can throw 20k at a 5k car and have a 12k car.

I would agree, other than I'm not sure I even get the equivalent of minimum wage for my time........maybe if it's the minimum wage I was getting in high school! But maybe that's because it takes me 3 days to replace radiator and heater hoses! And if I were to include the time I spend researching..........yikes, a losing proposition. But this is not my business, it's my hobby!

I recall celebrating my "raise" when minimum wage was increased to $1.15 per hour....

If you remember minimum wage being increased to $1.15, you better hurry up and make and offer and bring that Caribbean home!!!

There will be lots of unknowns, and if it's going to be a driver you'll want to go through everything any way. As long as everything is there and rebuildable you're good to go! BTW, having a driver is the way to go!!!
