The seal and gasket set that I bought for my 1951 Henney-Packard had one gasket that was incorrect but fortunately, long before, I happened to have had some made properly by Olson’s Gaskets so the work wasn’t stopped because of the error. I have a good rapport with Olson’s and generally order through Richard Olson himself! Also the rear stabilizer kit I bought from Merritt was wrong and was actually for the front so I had to order the proper one locally through Napa as it was a common size as it turned out.

Both legs of the cotter pin should be inside the hole in the adjusting ring and just spread slightly.

Ok so I ordered some new O rings. I believe the original size is a 9⅝ ID x ⅛ thick which is not a standard size. The closest size is a 9½ ID which is a #272 square cross section ring. The standard type (70 duro buna) should be fine. I have 4 extras, if you want one LMK. Donate $10 to the forum and I'll send you one.

Got the rear axle in and shimmed, which took forever. The parts cross reference gives a 13649 seal as the outer seal. This is wrong as it is too thick. It should be a 13662 seal. I dodged this by grinding down the seal thickness and adding a gasket around it, but it was still a huge pain and I might re-do it as I don't want the bearings loading onto the seals.

Other than that, it went OK and I got the rear brake lines installed.

By the way, the rear axle endplay may be easily tested in this manner.
