I suppose this was masked so coating didn't spray through the holes, but it also left this area, right where moisture comes in exposed. Mind you, I believe that the coating was for sound control, not corrosion protection.

In fact, that coating tends to trap moisture if anything. It didn't matter to the design because they didn't care about stuff that would only be a problem 40+ years in the future.

Any recommendations for a brush on product that I can use on the inside of my doors? Not planning on removing everything so don't want to be spraying. I do have some of the Rust Check "Interior panel protectant" that I could brush on.

Ross recommended those self-stick rubber sound deadening pads to me in the past. Doesn't need to be full coverage as a large amount of their effect is being a "shock absorber" for the otherwise-resonant metal which would otherwise tend to amplify sound (compare how a bell works for the "resonant" example). The thickness of the pads themselves forming a direct barrier is secondary. So just stick them where you can, don't kill yourself trying to surface prep the entire inside of the door. 50% coverage will likely be satisfactory.

I scraped most of the original sound deadening off the inside of my doors. Most of it was flaking off anyways and there was rust underneath the flaking spots. So I scraped what I could, wire brushed the rust, then wiped on some Ospho. I can't remember if I spray painted the inside or not. But I did throw apply some of the sound deadening mat that PGH talked about. Helped a ton with the panel resonance.

What?!?! Packard didn't know I would be fixing up a Cavalier 72 years after they produced it!?!? I think Packard, owners, engineers, designers, employees, etc would be happy to know that all these years later people are restoring and enjoying the cars they produced.

I have some of the sound deadening panels left from the floor pan, I think I'll stick a couple in each door. Don't kill myself, do you mean don't spend too much time? Too late for that, I'm the guy cleaning and restoring clips, screws, etc!
