Not quite. The shoes are all the same on some cars such as my 1951 Henney-Packard on both front and rear and was that way on all my other Henney-Packards too. Maybe something to do with the weight being over 3 tons.

Also not true for Lockheed non-self-energizing two-shoe brakes as used for years on Chrysler products and a few other makes. In the Lockheed system both shoes used fixed anchors, thus no distinction between the shoes.
