I was wondering the same thing as I have never seen that style before. Typically they are more of a bullet-shape with a thinner bezel.

The reverse lights are definitely aftermarket. Obviously the wrong type, and they are set way too far outboard to have been installed by Packard. Packard has pretty clear instructions on where the holes should be drilled for backup lights, and these ones aren't there. Also, the reverse light switch on the steering column is for sure not original. The original Packard part is typical Packard quality, whereas the one on Van Halen is basically a strip of metal bent to put the switch in a decent position. Also, the green wire going from the switch to the rear lights is not included in the bundle of wires that goes to the rear. In the hardtops that harness sits on the floor and follows the transmission hump to the rear. The green wire in my car was totally separate and was laying haphazardly all over the floor panels. I know that some Packards had the dealership install them afterwards, but I'd imagine they would use Packard parts and would have things done correctly.
My guess is a previous owner had these light installed, or did it himself, and bought them from some catalog. I'm going to leave them because they work and the body work to correct it isn't worth the squeeze.
