You can't loosen the bellhousing until you take the flywheel off, which means you have to take the pressure plate and clutch disc out first...

Can't say I'm aware of any special techniques needed, how certain are you it's not just being held in place by the forces of age and environment?

Dave, have you disconnected the clutch linkage from the release arm? It would seem that with the arm free that you could then move it back and forth enough to relieve any pressure the arm and release bearing are placing on the clutch cover (pressure plate). Just a suggestion.

Dave, try to remove the clutch fork retainer bolt, then remove the fork. Can you get me a pic of what's going on?
