I would take the number on the seal down to the local parts store and see if they can cross it over to a National number. Seals are usually pretty easy to find.

You're right, I just went out and checked my '53 R11 O/D and there's no number. The only way to get a new one at the parts store is to very carefully pull it out and have them measure it. Either that, or spend way more than necessary and buy it from the Packard parts dealers.

Here is one for an R-9. Possible fit the R-11? Maybe the seller will take some measurements.

A Chicago Rawhide seal, CR 16805 will do the job for you. It looks different but fits great and I have used it in many of those transmissions--fits the straight 51-54 3 speeds as well. Available from NAPA for about $10.
