Just a short note I read that Phil Hill's 1927 Packard 343 Convertible Sedan will be auctioned by Gooding & Company at Pebble Beach.

This car was restored by Phil Hill and took best of show at Pebble beach in 1977.

Posting a photo of that car shows good taste. For those that are interested in it, more photos and information may be found in Julie Fenster's book, Packard The Pride.

One of the highlights of my career as a car nut was hosting Phil Hill's talk at the Packard Centennial.

Posting a picture of Phil Hill's Packard may have been in good tastes. How ever the same can't be said for the color combination that Phil had the car painted. Looks like the colors of a Caddy pimp mobile from the 70's.

I got to looking at the picture of Phil Hills Packard. I was beginning to really wonder if it was a convertible sedan.
Looking in my references books none of them listed a convertible sedan being offered by Packard in 1927. Come to find out the body was built by Murphy.

Cadillac had a similar-appearing body style in those years, made by Fleetwood but called a "Fleetwind". All the visible pieces of a convertible sedan, chrome wing nuts, center posts, top brackets, etc., EXCEPT the top didn't come down.

PS - one clue on that Fleetwind that the top didn't come down was a cigar smoke scupper on the roof. But whether or not the Murphy is a convertible sedan (probably is), it's better-looking that the Fleetwind.

If I had painted that car it probably would have been Navy blue...

Dave, the car is definitely a convertible sedan. In the Fenster book there is a period photo of one with the top down. It is some sort of very light California color scheme
