were all 1955 Clippers using the Twin Ultramatic.

how would one tell the difference between a regular ultramatic and a twin ultra, if there were different ones?

thanks.

All 55's used twin ultra. Regular ultras had a breather on top of case near back and an oil fill cap and dipstick on drivers side right behind bellhousing. Twins had breather on side and oil fill and dipstick out of pan.

my service manuals only mention the twin ultra, and most of the books ive read state that the twin ultra was debuted with the new V8 engine to take better advantage of the different torque curve.

True-the name twin ultra originated in 55. The actual transmission started production with some late 54 cars (Big Kev has one in his clipper) and was called gear start ultramatic. There is a short section in the service manual on adjusting the linkage on that trans when coupled to the 54 S8.
