Have you checked the water pump? A bad impeller could be cavitating and reducing flow. Have you also check the distribution tube to make sure it is not clogged?
Also make sure the radiator hoses are not mushy, they could be collapsing internally on the lower hose and restricting flow.

OK update. Pulled the radiator and had it rechecked and flow is fine. Have yet to reinstall and check again. Project is at a stand still till my business picks back up.

Ok, The radiator checked fine. I pulled the water pump to check the distribution tube, that checked ok. Pulled the head and rechecked passages and confirmed head gasket was correct with proper holes and passages. That was ok too.
Got the head back on. Water pump checked and reinstalled. Hope to have the engine back up and running sometime this week. Finally have some work in the company. So maybe a little progress will be accomplished this summer/fall.

Ok recent update. The engine is running again and some minor leaks addressed. Never could isolate any direct culprit with cooling issues. Sent the radiator back to the shop and it checked fine. Water pump and distribution tube were all correct. New thermostat. Maybe I just expect too much of 1936 technology. I shouldn't tell my dad that, he was born 4 days after the delivery of my car!
I have gone back through the ignition with fresh eyes and all is in order. I have narrowed down the problem to the main jet tubes or emulsion tubes as the Ford flathead people called them Have the tool on the way to remove the jets should be able to make determinations this weekend.

Well got the jet tool for the carb and things are finally taking a turn for the better. Got the carb straightened out only to find the new head gasket was leaking. So pulled the head and dropped the pan to clean and check things and reinstlled the head. Wrapped up a couple of minor leaks on the oil lines. Its time for some more photos.

Got the last of the front end secured to day and made a round of photos. The running problems seem to be sorted out. The cooling system is in order and the head gasket issue is sorted out. Here are some photos. At this point I am ready to move on to the woodworking part of our show. That should come much easier as I have the shop for it. Thanks for the continued interest. More photos, some wiring and hoses are temporary to allow for on frame run in of engine. Well you get the idea.

Looks great!!
I do have a question/concern. I know on the 33-34, the fuel line was covered with a cotton type material from the fuel pump to the carb. Does anyone know if this is required on the 36? From looking at it, it appears that a vapor lock issue could arise from the current setup. Once again Phil, absolutely beautiful work!!
