Hydraulic jack oil seems to be the usual thing now that "Knee Action Fluid" or shock absorber oil is no longer available.
I suggested motorcycle fork oil which comes in different weights for "tuning" purposes. But don't know that anyone has tried it. Would like to know the results if anyone has.

I've used motorcycle fork oil in the Delco shocks on my '47 before they were rebuilt but they came full when Five Points rebuilt them so I don't know what they put in. The fork oil seemed to work fine for the few years I used it.

The capacity may be somewhere in the written record, probably a fluid ounce or less per shock, but a one quart can of suitable hydraulic oil should last a dozen lifetimes, assuming they don't leak. I've drained and refilled all 4 shocks on my 34 several times over the years, and refilled dozens of others, and still have only used about 1/2 quart. I use the lower viscosity of the two offered by Mobil.
