Nice Truck!! Wish I had one like that.
In regards to the 1000 and 1500 grit sand paper you have, I cannot emphasize enough that you don't start with it. If the orange peel is as bad as you say, you need to knock down those peaks. More work, but you'll be so much more happy with the final results. You can make your paint job look very professional.
Here's a thought, though. Spray a sample panel of some sort, and practice. Being a metallic paint, sometimes sanding too much can produce dark blotchy spots. Perhaps that's not as much of a problem with such a dark color, but that's why I'm suggesting that you try a practice panel.

Here is a photo of the cross section of my aftermarket weatherstrip. I am planning to cut the part as shown. This part gets pinched in the door gaps and I think this might be my problem.

Hi Barrie

I THINK someone has already said "Don't cut/chop" the seal - my experience says same - I have Steele Rubber door strips/trunk seals etc. and I'm going to fit and close and leave them as advised - trust : they WILL compress.

Best to try that first 'cos cuttin/chopping CAN'T be reversed.

Have been following your progress and a loud "YUP" - your work is GREAT !!

On the weather front think of us in the UK where after 20cms of snow over the Xmas period we are at a standstill on the road on the rail and in the air (well latter we ain't 'cos the airports are shut !!)

Interesting to learn your car is on an Aussie Stromberg - mine is on a USA FoMoCo 250 truck carb.

Here are some photos of the past weekends cut and polish work. I am allright with the result although it is not perfect. I am gonna leave it as is for the time being as I am really tired of this now. Will soon start assembly.

Thanks to the two Brians from Canada for their visit! ALways great to meet up with fellow car people especially from across the oceans! Hope you guys enjoyed the short (and very wet!) visit.
I am looking at a 1956 Hudson/Nash station wagon...cant seem to stop collecting...

Still extreme slow progress. Did add the taillights and rear valance, boot handle and name script. Just to feel that there is small progress. At least the car has its name back! Also started with the front headlights.

Yup ! Gets to look better and better ! Nice shot of the rear vallance - can't wait to get mine on.

Have the door seals settled in now ?

All my chrome is now back and some is actually attached to the old girl - still having trouble getting some hubcaps for her though.

If your car has a glove box interior a few shots posted would help me as my whole box interior succumbed to the dreaded African bugs when she resided there so I'll have to construct one myself.

Ron Carpenter in Alamo, California makes and sells reproduction glove box liners. He advertises and is in the directories. I don't know if he makes them for your model, but worth checking.

Nice to hear you are also seeing some progress.

will try to get that glovebox picture for you. My glovebox is full of small parts that can get easily lost. It seems to be made from cardboard?

During the past weekend I installed the righthand window mechanisms. A tricky job. Also made a start with the beadings. They are not all in good shape. Will keep looking for better pieces in the US. The car is very dirty at present as it is not worth cleaning off the hand prints yet! Lots of hands on work still left. All mechanical operations of winders etc. is working great. Will have to play around with door alignment.

I now have a box - but the condition has to be seen to be believed so posted photos of your box would be a great help in location of clips/staples etc.

No rush as we are going to France for 2 weeks come this Saturday (subject to eruptions from the Icelandic volcano of course !!!)

My doors have yet to be painted so I'll cross the window winder/glass/door handles bridge when I get to it !

Are you okay for clips for your trim ? Your friend Brian DeBoeck got me mine from Spae-Naur (#B-946 is the one)and I'm sure he'd help with any trim you want to update too.

Ah just remembered mine is a 22nd Series and yours is 23rd - better check before ordering - they are clever clips however as one clip does two widths of trim on my car.
