The pump was not electric. it was the one that came factory on the car. Right after i got the car the pump was leaking so I rebuilt it and that is why it has too much pressure.

I just cant fathom a stock Packard mechanical fuel pump putting out that kind of pressure! Or any Mechanical fuel pump for that matter unless it was for some kind of racing application.

Sounds absolutely impossible to me, I wonder if the gauge was correct or being read correctly. The reason mechanical pumps don't have pressure regulators is that about 5 psi is maximum by design.

Just a beginner if you have fuel spark the third item is compression. If you have all three it should run. Since the car was the last item worked on my bet is this is where you will find the problem. Good luck

The rebuild kit for the fuel pump was supposed to be a factory replacement not a racing one. So I don't know why it would put out that much pressure either. Im just glad that it does not smoke any more.
