how do you replace/repair this tube comming from the intake manifold. mine is rusted bad at the first bend from the start of the intake manifold. it appears to be pressed in and i'm not sure how to replace it. i can have the machine shop remove it, but i dont' see a replacement from the vendors.....is this something i will need to make on my own? and if so...how do i do the part that presses in. looks to be a special tub flare of some sort.
thanks, Hank

There are two pieces, right? The section that's swedged into the manifold which doesn't "come out", and the choke housing tube which inserts into it.

Right, that's a separate piece from the "stove" which is swedged into the intake. It just inserts part way in, no fittings or fixtures.

Hank,
Mine was removed easily. It never rusted: but what do YOU do now? Lots of PB blaster and gentle persuasion with an appropriate tool perhaps.

The stove tube (that is INSIDE of the manifold) should be SS. SS is hard!! If the EXTERNAQL tube going to the carb choke ( it is regular steel not SS) breaks off then select the correct size drill and drill out the amount that broke off inside of the SS stove tube. There should only be about 1/2" that inserts into the stove tube.
Try NOT to break it off tho.

I don't know why u're replacing the EXTRERNAL tube. If it is clogged up with carbon then u have a INTERNAL stove tube that is burned thru allowing exh. gasses to enter the EXTERNAL tube and choke on the carb.
I do not know specifically what packard used in production for the INTERNAL stove tube. Never bothered to check it. However it is highly unlikely that Packard did not use SS for the INTERNAL stove tube. SS will not burn out like standard steel tubing. Also note that by general automotive Hoyle the INTERNAL stove tube should also have a corrugatged or interupted centre area for about 1 inch . It will look like it was stamped near the center 1 inch of the tube with a dull chisel about 4 strikes around perimter of tube Ths is to increase the amount of exhaust heat Xfer to the air passing thru it. Again, i've never studied the PACKARD application of the INTERNAL stove tube but what i have outlined above would be generaly expected for this application of choke operation in ANY engine that uses it.

The internal choke tube for the Packard is most likely (tho i don;t know for sure) the same such tube as Chev V8 1955 thru about 1967 used. Maybe length is a little differnt. Cut it off if too long. If too short u're sunk.
If u need a new one inquire and shop around for such a tube that is SS and the length.
