don't see the data plate, but the auction says 5687. i guess they could have converted it to look like a Carribean considering they screwed up the interior.

I don't know if that paint scheme is original or not, the paint# on the VN plate might give a clue. But interestingly, one 56 Caribbean convertible, #1208, was special ordered in just the reverse of that, with the "Reynolds Wrap" style 400 side trim scheme. And ALL were supplied with Twin Ultramatic, though one car, #1074 was built with steering column selector rather than pushbuttons. This information from the original build slip study published by PAC in 1987.

#1074 would be an early56 Carib. Are any earlier 56 Caribs known to still exist or is that the earliest remaining Carib to-date???

Packard 5699 1001 was trailered to Warren and sold. It was a barn find, but was in pretty good shape. You can't get any earlier than that.

In addition to Randy's comment, other 5699s earlier than #1074 known to me to still exist are #s 9, 26, 29, 40, 45, 58 & 69 and probably others as well. If I'm reading the roster correctly there are 34 survivors prior to #74.

PS - and the last one built also survives.

This car came to Salado. He did change it to his liking. It is listed in the V8 roster.
