OK, getting the cotter pin out was easy. After application of PB Blaster, and jacking up the rear axle to release the pressure on the bolt, the bolt turned easily.

Unfortunately, it is not going to be easy to get the nut to turn separate from the bolt. At minimum it is a two person job. It may also require the manufacturing of a speciality tool.

Well, lots of folks have done it before you, that's always reassuring. Space permitting, you might want to think about tack-welding a nut to the backside of the bolt to hold it. The heat will cook the rubber bushing, but replacing it is why you're there in the first place, so no loss. Would also make reassembly easier.

Glad to hear that you found the nut you needed. While I have not used them before, FMW Fastners (http://www.fmwfasteners.com/) appears to have a great selection of nuts & bolts.
