And finally, let me know if these work for you. I can re-size them larger if that will be of more help to you.

At least my floor mat looks good.I think it should clean up nicely.

Charles, it already starts to look acceptable and I admire your grim determination to make the sparks fly.

Thanks for the compliment Guscha!

Thank you so much Stephen for the pictures. They are extremely helpful and just what I was looking for. One question...in pic #7, are the wires running in a channel or is the trunk floor flush with the rear of the filler panel? It is hard to tell in the pic. It does not look like a channel to me.

5-16-11

Spent about an hour playing with my welder settings and adjusting my technique. As soon as I thought I was making decent welds, I ran out of wire! Figures. Below are some pics of the progress.

I also cleaned, polished and reassembled the radio. The button rubbing issue was actually an easy fix that I figured out by accident. I was applying grease to the button ends with them pulled out so they would move easier. When I pulled out the stuck button, the button itself came off. After a small amount of panic, I went to put it back on. Well, all of a sudden the gap was pretty good and no more rubbing! Turns out that it must have came out as some time and instead of putting the button back in the off center slot, they put it in the far blank space, causing the rubbing. Works great now. I couldn't find an obvious place for the felt so I left it out. I'm sure it helps make the button presses less noisy, but I would hate to put it somewhere it doesn't belong and bind the mechanism up.

So while I was putting the radio back together, my 4 year old son wanted to help. I let him screw the side screws back in. He was having a lot of fun being a "good helper". Then it all went south when he picked up my small screwdriver while I was putting the knobs back on. Before I could even get out "Put that down!" he jabbed it in the perforated speaker guard and put a tear in the speaker! Argh! It's about 3/16 long. Do you think it will be an issue? Is there a way to repair it if necessary or should I not worry about it?

It looks far enough away from the voice coil so doubt any damage was done. It might "buzz" on some notes, but I've seen a lot worse with actual tearing that still functioned--just had the occasional raspy sound--not that you'll expect or get much quality sound from AM monaural anyway..

Have you tried the radio and see if it works. Actually, that's probably a silly question--you've most likely been waiting for the antenna wire. I would be a bit concerned about the capacitors. If still the originals, after 60 years they are probably not in great condition.

No, I haven't tried it yet. When I first got the car, I would get static out of it (antenna wouldn't go up so no stations). Then it stopped all of a sudden. Now that I have it out, I found the fuse was blown and the power wire was in bad shape. I'm hoping that replacing the wire and fuse holder will fix the problem. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad the damage to the speaker shouldn't be a problem. I'll avoid blasting the AM hip hop stations just in case LOL!

There is a channel at the edge of trunk floor. The wiring harness for tail lamps, backup and license plate light runs in the channel. The two reinforcing bracings and mount for trunk is over the channel. The rolled back material you see in #1 is the trunk floor mat/rug.

If you need the depth of the channel I can measure it for you today. Probably should have taken a tape over with me.

Charles,

I measured the channel a little while ago. The channel appears to be 1 9/16" deep and 1 1/2" wide. It also extends approx 4" past the rear fender/body seams on either side. The channel tapers down to the width of my forefinger at outside fender curve.

Nor sure if this deserves a new thread- but what kind of lining is installed in Patrician trunk inner fender sidewalls and the tops of the wheel wells? It almost looks like carpet but appears to have some kind of a sprayed adhesive under the carpet fibers. Kind of rings a bell about another post a ways back.
