I was driving my 34 Eight to a local show here in NJ today, and what should I come across just ahead of me, tooling along at a breakneck speed of 12-20 mph? None other than John Hovey's 1901 Model C Packard. Now it's rare enough to see any car of that vintage, much less driving to a show on the highway, but a 1901 Packard no less!!

I went with a couple of the local Packard boys over to the Greenwich (CT) Concours d'Elegance yesterday. Not only was the weather better than last year and indeed nearly perfect, but the selection of vehicles was also IMO far better. I'll post some pictures over on PAC's forum and provide a link later.
Among the Packards of special note were a freshly restored 1911 Model 30, and Ralph Marano's 1934 Twelve convertible sedan by Dietrich. Others were a pair of Super Eight convertible sedans, 1937 and 1939, and a 1931 833 roadster. The selection of non-Packards was varied and outstanding, makes included a very rare and original Brewster, Allard, Cunningham, Facel-Vega, Dual Ghia, Mercedes 540 SSK, Ford Model K, Hudson Italia, 56 Dodge Lancer w/D-500 option, a Duesenberg by Murphy, Cadillac V16 by Lancefield, Pierce Arrow 48 by F. B. Wood, Kisel Gold Bug, and may more. Also quite a collection of antique motorcycles. If you're within driving distance of Greenwich and haven't sttended this event - make it a must-do next year. O-D, In some ways (car show opportunities) you are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky. In the whole of the city there are only 3 CCCA classics (a 29 and a 47 Packard(mine) and a 34 Rolls Royce 20/25 ) none of which are exceptional

Yes, Indeed I am fortunate in that respect. Probably within a one-hour radius of here there are 150, maybe more, bona fide Classics per CCCA, and the majority are probably Packards but many CCCA marques represented.
In September, the key event in this area, just following PAC's Henry Joy Tour in western NJ, will be the Fairfield (CT) Concours which will feature a concurrent CCCA Grand Classic. Some more information about that event can be found at fairfieldcountyconcours.com/ If you can make that event, I suspect you will find it very rewarding.

Had a great day out yesterday at our region's major annual show in Nottingham England.
The show had dedicated sections for various clubs and models as well as motorcyles, buses, autojumble etc etc. Probably over 1000 vehicles on display and over 50,000 visitors. Its a major annual bash! Of course mine was the only Packard there but for a change it was good to be parked in the Pre-War section and in the company of a few Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Lagondas and Alvis. It was exhausting really due to the (not unexpected) attention that the Packard received. Ordinarily the Bentley alongside would have been drooled over but most people walked straight past when they saw the Packard. Thankfully the cars were behind ropes which really does make a difference to the "look with my fingers" brigade! However they removed them for the last 30 minutes and it was a bit of a free-for-all so we had to be vigilant for belt buckles, handbags and snotty-fingered children. A guy with a '57 Cadillac (the only other show-stopper) had the right idea - he brought his own pins and rope along so was doubly-protected. I am seeing a local metalworker tonight to ask him to make a set up for me too. You can see the Packard (just) among the crowd with the Bentley devoid of any interest below.
