By the way, Fred Kanter writes:
"I'm getting a bit tired of being slammed in this forum by someone who does not know what they are talking about."

Not sure who YOU are talking about. GO BACK AND READ POST #2 of this thread. I recommended that Packard contact KANTER auto parts about his shocks.

I have seen ABSOLUTELY NO indications of YOU Fred kanter being slammed by anyone.

THis is an INTERNET discussion group.. NOT a Sunday School class.

Packard of Iceland:

Look at the shocks CURRENTLY on your car. There is most likely some numbers stamped into the metal of the shocks, usualy near the bottom.

Report those numbers to us and maybe an eBay or Google or autoparts store search using the current numbers on your shocks will help to place more information available to u and us for the 55's with TL.

From:
packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/parts/

There is listed:

"front shock all 55-56 torsion suspension 82026 Gabriel - cli55er"

Since 55 and 56 front shocks are different and the author has a 55 i'm assuming the 82026 Gabriel number is 55 TL ONLY.

Mite need to make the correction to the Parts X-Ref if everyone agrees.

As the questioner lives in Iceland, and considering the problems of shipping gas shocks by air perhaps he could use the part numbers provided to buy the shocks from a local auto parts store.

I know leading European brands like Koni are sold in North America so they make shocks suitable for American cars. Whether they make those specific ones, can only be found out by asking. But if they interchange with Chevrolet and others, chances are they are available.

Worth a phone call anyway.

And Mr Kanter your experience and knowledge make your advice valuable and appreciated . It would be a shame if you let a few undiplomatic posters run you off. Let us just call it a frank exchange of views ha ha.

Hint,

The front shocks on a '55 are top/bottom bayonet/bayonet

The rear shocks on 55-56 TL cars are bayonet/eye

Compare with pictures of referenced shocks, much easier
