1931 Firewall Color

I have searched high and low here and over on the Packard Club site and for the life of me cannot find any reference to what color the firewall should be on my 1931 833 468 Coupe.

Even thou I had it nicely painted in SS Gloss Black I had to strip it all off due to some adhesion problems. Paint was peeling off in sheets. Since I have to go through the pains of stripping re-priming and painting I may as well get it in the right shade of black.

Should it be Flat, Semi Gloss or Gloss?

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Of all the unmolested cars I've looked at, never ever seen a firewall in flat or semi-gloss. I would assume they were painted at the same time as the body tub was painted.

So I'd conclude Gloss.

From the PI Judging Guide:

"All 1934 and prior Gloss Black

All 1935-1958 Body Color

except...

1953-54 Caribbean Body color from the drip rail up, gloss black below.

A few custom bodied cars may differ"

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Gloss it will be.

BigKev,
It did not even cross my mind to look at the PI site. Is the Judging Guide available to anyone or do you have to be a member.

It's available for purchase. One of their club projects.
