Don, that's Vyacheslav Molotov, the Soviet Foreign Minister and Stalin's longest-serving warhorse. Thanks for the interesting parallel to find the adamant opponents united in remarkable resemblance of their outward appearance as a freak of nature. They often crossed paths and swords at the same rank but in facing trenches in the cold war.



BTW To my knowledge Mr. Dulles preferred older Cadillacs but seemed to visit the same optician.

Today I found a translation error related to the oil cooler and had to correct myself. Now it makes more sense. An oil cooler without forced ventilation needs airstream. The additional cooler had been intended to ensure a higher sustained speed on the flat plain. A reducing valve provided protection against overpressure at cold oil. The correlation between engine operating characteristic and oil flow behavior has been closer in 1945 due to the usage of high-viscosity oil. Attempting to pump high-viscosity oil at low temperatures through the lines was a frequent cause of damage to fuel lines oil hoses, seals and especially the light-case coolers which were designed with more fluid oils in mind.

A oil cooling system was used in the USSR cars even in the late 80s. Without the oil cooler/oil radiator(somewhat like a transmission fluid cooler on US cars on the front)the engine would have sized in no time.
But the name Vyacheslav Molotov,mentioned in a Gerds previous post is something I don't want to talk about here.

Gusha, we'd call them a "winterfront". Winterfront is also a name for the thermostat-controlled shutters in front of the radiator, for example a Pines Winterfront as on my 34, Pines being the manufacturer of the mechanism.

Dave, thanks. That's a very pictorial term, understandable even in German.
The below shown photographs display a ZIS-101 and a ZIS-101A, the predecessors of the 110/115, both already use a winterfront.

The engine bay side panel of the armored 115 featured a number of louvers (red marked). Please pay attention to the thickness of the forget steel capsule for the passengers (yellow marked).
