Help. Does anyone know what the thickness of the brake linings were in 1928? I just had mine relined, they used .250" thickness and my drums won't go on at the smallest adjustment, obviously wrong. They will re-do them but I need a spec.

I think I may have the specs for the lining. I'll try to take a look tomorrow.

Data I have says 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th series all used 3/16 lining on all models. Didn't have any information specific to the 5th series, but doubt it would be any different. Use of 1/4" linings began with the 10th series.

Dear RAS:

Those linings sound like a good deal. You don't want to throw them away just because they need to be finished.

What you need to do is find a brake builder who can grind the shoes to drum size. That will give you the best performance and they will center the way the manual says they should. What you will get are shoes matched to each drum.
