Mal, thanks and a belated thanks to O_D for getting the twelve photo. One of this batch is slightly different so will use it. I think we have a pretty decent file now on everything except 20's. Just one of those of a single six came in but will make do and submit all to Kev shortly.

Sorry, I'm late in on this - would you like a '31 or is the '32 presented sufficient?

If you would like to post a photo, all are gladly accepted in this thread. If the 31 in a different spot than the one showing for 32 or any of the others for 30's cars, then I would appreciate the photo and will try and incorporate it in the serial list.

Everything is about ready to submit so last call for photos. Only have one before 1930 which is for an early 20's car.

To those with inline 8's, a question. Thanks to some contributors, we have confirmed the V8's casting number designated size. Any chance this is also true of the inline 8's? To anyone with an easily accessible block willing to post, it would be helpful if a few numbers could be gathered along with a known CID to see if that is also a way to identify size without having the stamped motor number.

Where is the casting number? This link to my project blog, about 1/2 way down has pics of numbers I found on my engine. Is it one of those? Otherwise, I can take a pic of it if you point me in the right direction.

It will be on the passenger side rear lower edge of block just above the oil pan. Here is an example PackardV8 posted. I saw the one in your blog you have labeled transmission number. Is that on the flywheel cover/bellhousing or on the block itself.

The trans number was below the starter on the bell housing. Here is the correct number on the passenger side. It is a little blurry, but reads 426008. In the next "box" is the date 3-12-51.

Thanks. One vote for 426008 being on 288s. Lets see if the number comes up again on another post 51 engine and if something different comes up for the 327 and 359.

426008 is the casting number on my 327 block 5 bearing solid lifter block. Casting date 7/28/54, engine number M3xxxxx

Perhaps there was a common casting as the 327 and 288 are the same bore, difference is in the stroke.

Rats. Unless some enlightened person comes forward, guess that pretty much lets out anything but the stamped number to tell engine size. Maybe someone will have a 359 to throw in to see if different but starting to sound like anyone with a service engine & missing or illegible numbers is still in for a guessing game.
