Hey Doc,
Glad to hear the key worked for you. I wasn't completely sure if mine was a special case, or it was that way for others as well. I was told that most 50's cars' locks matched the glove box, and it is true. Well, partially, seeing as how there is a one pin difference. Good luck on your project, it looks like it is in much better condition than mine.

I got mine from Mike's Carburetors, in WA. It was a little more than some of the others, but Mike's had it in stock. Free shipping, and I received it in three days. Excellent customer service and quality. $79. Needed some tech support, and I called the number and spoke directly to Mike.

haven't realy got to work on the 51 lately but the gas tank is sealed and I took off the side windows. I stoped sanding there was some hard to reach places that rust was starting. So I'm biting the bullet and saving to pay for media blasting.any one have some tips on what media to use? I had a friend that told me to stay away from soda. and offcouse i will not use sand. that's the hub cap i have if anyone needs it. it's free and it looks like I might have 2 spare rims for free too.(I know the tank is the wrong color I got the eastwood tank paint on the way)

I know you can get a kit from these guys:http://www.riwire.com/

But, that can be a bit expensive. What I did was, print out the wiring diagram for my car, along with the chart that gives you the guage of each wire. From there I bought plenty of primary wire and a connector kit. It takes a good while to trace every wire, and you may have to reuse some of the old connections. But, I think I spent about $85 to rewire the entire car. And you should definitely have a solder gun, and a good wire stripper if you attempt to do it this way. I will warn you, it is a slow process, but budget friendly.

In addition to RI wire, there isnarragansettreproductions.com/wiring-harness.html orynzyesterdaysparts.com/ orharnessesunlimited.com/ I think all are pretty comparable in pricing and a couple have online price lists. If authentic is your preference, those are some options. Couple of others too but no websites.

If authenticity is not a concern, in addition to building your own another option is to buy a universal harness such asstores.ez2wire.com/-strse-37765/Oldsmobile-Pontiac-GMC-Buick/Detail.bok and modify or use what wires you need. Several have gone that route to save a bit. If you are keeping 6v, you need one rated as heavy duty. Those generally use larger gauge wire.

I got my harness from narragansett. The main harness was 895. and the overdrive was 129. They were fast and friendly. I didn't need to give them the main but had to for the overdrive I guess there are some small differences. They will send you the button ends for the lights so you can use your light sockets.Ask for a couple extra. I found out you just can't go to Radio Shack for those. Good luck.
