So bad luck today went to start her to do one last fluid flush before I dropped the oil pan. and she wont even turn over. no noise is coming from the starter so I'm thinking it's all the bare wires I have causing a short. Any other ideas i hope its not the starter she ran fine for 5 min yesterday.

Do you hear solenoid trying to click? If so, and no starter action would look at battery and cables or even solenoid. If no click and battery is good, then carb starter switch or if Ultramatic, the wiring and safety switch down on trans.

Whenever my car did that because of a short, I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. Somehow it resets it and lets you try to start it again.

Try jumping the connection between the BAT terminal on the solenoid, and the trigger terminal (the small one) on the solenoid. If this works, then the problem is upstream from it (carb switch etc). If the solenoid click, but the starter does do anything, then the starter is probably the issue. If the solenoid doesn't click, then you have a bad solenoid.

All of the above tests assume the battery is charged.

Thanks! I wire brushed it with my angle die grinder, and primed it with PPG Omni gray epoxy primer. I used the old water pump to match the color using PPG Concept single stage, mixing black and white to get a gray, and adding blue and yellow tint to arrive at a pretty good match to the original Packard gray.

I mixed it by eye, so I don't have a formula, but I could get one by spraying out a sample and taking it to the PPG jobber for a scan. It's a pretty darn good match, if I must say so myself, so I would be glad to share it if anyone needs to have it mixed.

No rattle can color that I could find had the Packard gray close enough for me.
