Received one today. Many thanks to Kanter for sending me one. Very nice cover too.

But i'm wondering what "code PAC 5 EG3677 SB" stands for on the mailing label????

It's TOP Secret I'm sure! Further, do you really think we should even be discussing such a topic within this venue? Could someone out there be lurking? Will we ever know? Are we to be marked Packard men now?

I got a catalog too recently. My code is PAC 5 FB0318 DJK & I have not the faintest idea what it really means.

Pretty simple to decode some of it, I'd say that when you ordered the catalog the person who entered the order has their initials attached to the code, IE, "SB" would be "Stuart Blond", Packard53's favorite parts man, and "DJK" would be "Dan Kanter". "PAC 5" is probably the code for V8 Packards, and the 6 digit alpha numeric code is probably just an internal designation that they use.


I'm not saying that this is correct, but it seems like the most logical explanation, and Kevin's contribution as to the code makes me think that this is correct.

EDIT....

I just ordered a 1948 catalog from them (which I need anyway) and when it comes in I'll report the "code" to see if my theory holds water. All these years as a parts guy looking at catalogs and seeing similar mailing codes makes me think that this is correct.

My guess is that the 5 digit code is a customer number or some other means of customer tracking number.

Found one very minor error in the cataloug.
4th from the last page where the girls (dressed ca. 1956) are discussing the Patrician, the caption reads:
"...placed a toll free call to Kanter ...".

IIRC there was no such thing as 1-800 numbers nor anything that would resemble a toll free call until about the late 1960's. Most all long distance calls had to be placed thru an operator.

Someone mite want to advise the young Kanter bros. of this relatively insignificant error nonetheless.
