Gas Tank Blues

I got the remains of the gas tank from my '55 today and hopefully I'm going to share what it looks like. As best as I can figure, the dimensions of the Packard tank without counting the flange is: 25" X 25" X 8". Roughly the same as the 55-57 Chevy. Why the Packard holds 20 gallons and the Chevy 16, I haven't a clue.

I also haven't got a clue as to how to load the damn pictures!

First, make sure your pictures are jpg and less than the max file size of 2048k listed. To load the pictures, under the reply box are two buttons--browse and attach file. Click browse and navigate to the picture on your computer, click it to highlight or click the open button -- however your system does it, then hit attach file. Do this for each picture. Once you do the attach file, the window will refresh and you will see your picture name listed below the buttons. Once all done, then complete or check (preview) your message if you want. If all looks good, at the bottom click the regular submit button.

Well, let's see if this works. If it does, it will show what happened to my gas tank when they stuck the power washer nozzle inside.

While I'm on a roll, here's a shot of what remained of the Sending Unit when I pulled it out of the tank.

Mercy. That tank has got to be one of the worst. I don't think even the renu process will help that.

I know what you mean Howard. The amazing thing is that none of the holes were there before they hit the power washer. The force just blew right through the tank. I'm going to take it to Tom at Able Radiator mainly because I said I would and also I feel I've nothing to lose at this point. Even the top half of the tank has a couple of holes. I was hoping I could at least salvage that!

I also got a call from my mechanic telling me the radiator in the '51 is shot.

I think I'll go outside and eat worms.

That's without doubt the worst gas tank I've ever seen! Have you considered talking to Mike Dulinski? He's got a lot of V8 parts cars and I'd think there's a good chance he'd have a used one that can be boiled out and coated to give a good, serviceable tank.
