I'm going stand corrected/update myself, they're making a 6v replacement LED bulb according to superbrightleds.
Some cars require a LED flasher.
It's changing fast. So it's extremely simple now, plug and play.

Chevy's of the 40's offers both 12 and 6 volt bulbs that plug into the original style receivers. Note that they do have 12 LED flasher's, but apparently not 6 volt. They also discuss the fact that the bulbs are very one directional as Big Kev noted earlier. Here's their web site. You can also find the 12 volt ones at any RV dealer as well.
