I got a rumble seat.

With the tire size issue cleared up, now I'm wondering about the sidemount carriers possibly being mounted too low. If they could be raised up a little, that is bolted higher up on the frame side rails, that could give you the clearance you need maneuver the spares on and off the carriers.

Perhaps owners of other Twelfth Series cars with sidemounts could check and comment if their carriers seem to sit higher than yours as shown in the photo.

The sidemount carrier is mounted to the frame, and as far as I know there are no adjustments. I've another 35 eight and I'll measure that carrier and see if there's any difference.

Well I've got the answer why it won't fit comfortably. George Holinga helped me in Kerrville; the tires 80 years were skinnier than today's tire, although they're the same size.

Another problem with deflating is that the sidemount covers don't fit snug.

What I do for my cars, is to carry a hand, or foot, pump in trunk.

Possibly an explanation for some brands of collector-car tires but at least one of the 7:00-17 tires available to us today is made in a mold that predates WW II so though it's a modern tire in terms of manufacture and materials, it's dimensions remain unchanged.
