I think that may be a bit small in diameter.
I ran 225 75 -15 tires on my 56 Clipper with no problems to install the rears.

I checked and I have
HANKOOK OPTIMO H724 P 225 /75 R15 100S SL WW "thin" whitewalls They fit in the rear. It's a little tight taking them on and off, but it's doable, probably no worse than OE.

I've been told that the diameter for 215/75R15 is approx 5/8 inch less than for 7,60x15. This will only lower the car approx 5/16 inch. I'm in doubt which to choose; 225 or 215!

225/75-R15. The smaller tire would bug me. In my opinion the cars look best when the tires fill the wheel wells.
