By the way, the serial number of the last Detroit-built (and real) Packard was; 5682-4775. 1,443 production workers left that day with lunch boxes in hand, never to return to work at the Conner Avenue plant. A study was later made and published about these "alienated workers"; it is a difficult, painful read!

Packard got screwed by the government when the Jet Engine contracts got canceled. Everything else was bad management choices coupled with a shrinking luxury car market.

But I digress....

My date of interest is June, 22nd, 1956, as this is the date that the Earle C. Anthony dealership in LA engraved. Does this give an idea when my Executive (5677A-1990) rolled off the line?

Ah yes, the new and improved 1953 Defense Secretary and his "Narrow Based Purchasing Program". He was hired from GM. Guess what was on the receiving end of that program.
